Europe's Global Food Industries Join the Fight for Global Health

Back in 2005 the food giants were certainly regarded as adding to the problems of poverty and poor health by threatening the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of poor farmers and marketing unhealthy junk food. Calls for stronger regulation have grown stronger in the intervening years and some but not all of Europe's global food companies such as Nestlé, Danone, Unilever and European subsidiaries such as Kraft Foods Europe and PepsiCo Europe are taking stock of their contribution both to diet related aspects of poor health in Europe and their global impact on poverty and health. They must be engaged in the forthcoming discussions of action to tackle NCDs.

The Ethical Consumer recently published a guide to ethical consumption and rates products such as bottled water, coffee, chocolate and breakfast cereals.
