Triumph over tobacco

The outcome of the fourth meeting of the parties to the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control has been hailed as a victory over industry pressure.

The 172 parties, who convened in Punta Del Este, Uruguay, last week, succeeded in passing legislation to limit the use of flavoured tobacco despite lobbyists' insistence that it would ruin the livelihoods of millions of farmers.
